10 surprising signs your child has ADHD

ADHD doesn't always look like what you'd expect.

It's not always the kid bouncing off walls or shouting out answers. Sometimes it's quiet. Subtle. Hiding in plain sight.

Three signs that often get missed:

  1. The daydreamer - They're not ignoring you. Their brain moved to something more interesting three sentences ago. ADHD isn't just hyperactivity - it's attention that won't stay where you need it.
  2. The emotional kid - They cry over small things, explode over minor frustrations, feel everything at 100%. That's not "sensitive" - it's emotional dysregulation, a core ADHD trait most people don't know about.
  3. The chronic forgetter - Bag, jacket, lunch, homework - something's always left behind. Not careless. Working memory problems. Their brain literally can't hold multiple things at once.

What usually happens:

You think: "They just need to try harder." Or "They'll grow out of it." Or "I'm failing as a parent."

But none of that's true.

What helps:

When they forget again or melt down over nothing, try: "Your brain works differently - and that's okay. Let's figure out what helps your brain remember."

That removes shame and opens problem-solving.
